A Tribute to the Bible

I found this tribute while studying this morning in Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible. Finis Jennings Dake shared so much of his personal study of the Bible with us and this is certainly worth repeating.

The Bible is not an amulet, a charm, a fetish, or a book that will work wonders by its very presence.

It is a book that will work wonders in every life, here and hereafter, if acted upon and obeyed in faith and sincerity.  IT IS God’s inspired revelation of the origin and destiny of all things, written in the most  simple human language possible so the most unlearned can understand and obey its teachings.  IT IS self-interpreting and covers EVERY subject of human knowledge and need now and forever.

As a literary composition, the Bible is the most remarkable book every made.  It is divine library of 66 books, some of considerable size, and others no larger than a tract. These books include various forms of literature-history, biography, poetry, proverbial sayings, hymns, letters, direction for elaborate ritualistic worship, laws, parables, riddles, allegories, prophecy, drama, and others.  They embrace all manner of literary styles in human expression.

It is the book that reveals the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.  Its doctrines are holy, its precepts binding, its histories true, and its decisions immutable.  Read it to be WISE, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.  The Bible contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.  It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter.  Here heaven is opened, and the gates of hell disclosed.  Christ is its grand subject, our good is its design, and the glory of God its end.  It should fill your memory, rule your heart, and guide your feet in righteousness and true holiness.  Read it SLOWLY, FREQUENTLY, PRAYERFULLY,MEDITATIVELY, SEARCHINGLY, DEVOTIONALLY, and STUDY it constantly, perseveringly, and industriously.  Read it through and through until it becomes part of your being and generates FAITH THAT WILL MOVE MOUNTAINS. The Bible is a mine of wealth, the source of health, and a world of pleasure.  It is given to you in this life, will be opened at the judgment, and will stand forever.  It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the least to the greatest of labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Enough said…what do you think?

The Rock

When issues of life (formerly called trials and tribulations), come our way, what do we stand on? There is a temptation during those times to become double-minded or use our reasoning abilities to get through the situation.  But this morning the Holy Spirit led me to I Corinthians 10: 4

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual ROCK that followed them: and that Rock was CHRIST (KJV).

Jesus Christ defeated the enemy!  His Word is TRUE and we hold on to Him because HE is the ROCK. When we are in His Presence the issues of life become so small as we MAGNIFY Him. He is great and marvelous!

He asks us to stand on Him, the Rock, and have faith in Him, not in our reasoning, not with what we have in our hand, but what His Word says.

One time years ago while on vacation, I slipped down on a slimy concrete boat ramp and broke my finger in the process.  You see, I didn’t realize it was slimy…I just wanted to put my feet in the water and rinse the sand off my feet after walking on the beach.  WRONG ROCK!.

Oh, how it hurt. I also scraped my knees and almost ruined a three-day vacation. There were other ways to rinse my feet off and what looked like a source of relief became a snare that tripped me up.

Our faith and hope needs to be on Jesus Christ and His Word. If we look at our circumstances we will slip and fall down which creates a new problem.

The hymn, “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand” (Edward Mote, 1834), rings true today.  He based this song on the scripture that I have written above telling the story of how our ancestors followed God under the cloud, through the sea, ate the same spiritual meat and drank of the same Rock as we do.

Let’s stand on Jesus Christ our solid rock and not on sinking sand.

Mind-Enemies-Behavior-Holy

Created by God and for God, we human beings are amazing.  We live in a body, have the capacity to learn, speak and reason, and our spirits become new when we confess our sins and ask Jesus to be Lord of our lives.  Wow! From where I sit watching the Church marching on, I have noticed some roadblocks that are self-induced.  A lot of time we not only blame others, but we blame the devil when in reality, we may be bringing undue stress to ourselves. Oops.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies (in your minds) because of evil behavior.  But now he, (JESUS), has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation-if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.  This is the gospel that you heard and proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant (Colossians 1:21-23).

When we believe that the Bible is the Word of God and it is Truth, then we have a point of reference to stand our ground in our defense against our mind which is NOT born again. (Refer back to earlier blog, My Mind Needs to be Renewed?). The Bible says that once we were enemies because of our behavior, but not now.  Once we became Christians, we became HOLY.  Whoa, that can’t be right. Look at the above verse again. Jesus has reconciled us by what He did on the cross so that He can present us HOLY in God’s sight.  Well, the reasoning ability given to us by God cannot wrap itself around that because we have been taught that for every behavior there is a consequence. So, we don’t forgive ourselves.  We keep some memories in our brains and when the pressures of life stack up, boom, there they are:  sins that we have been forgiven of but we won’t let them go.  Then guilt sets in, followed quickly by shame, and then condemnation.

The emotions of guilt and shame are SO devastating to our spirit, soul and body.  We need to recognize those emotions for what they are and tell them to go because they are enemies of God. Shame will alienate you from your family, friends and especially your church.  But we the humans take control over those emotions and speak the WORD of GOD.

But now, He (JESUS) has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you HOLY in HIs sight, without BLEMISH.

Yes! We are clean and spotless!  By the way, Paul who was Saul before his conversion knew this better than anyone.  He had persecuted Jesus’ followers, imprisoned them and had some of them killed. He is writing this letter to encourage those who were being trapped in their own minds.  The blood of Jesus was strong enough to abolish all the sins of humanity, but we must believe it in our minds also.  The Word of God is either true or not.  I believe it is true and I choose to let God’s words direct my life, not my mind and reasoning.

That is GOOD NEWS! Please do not let condemnation rule you today.

The Vacancy Will Be Filled

In God’s kingdom we all are given the opportunity to serve in some capacity.  Judas was chosen to be a disciple and walked with Jesus but somewhere in the three years of ministry, sin entered his heart. Many scholars as well as ordinary students of the Word have speculated about what might have happened to him.  I have heard that maybe because he was the treasurer of the ministry and he got greedy or in disagreement with the way the money was spent.  That opinion makes some sense as well as my theory…that maybe he took an offense and could never get beyond it. You know what I mean…it started out small and then other little things were added to it and before long, he could justify becoming a traitor.

It is a privilege to serve in any capacity in the kingdom of God, but it is not easy.  The most important quality that we need to have is a humble heart and a pure attitude.  When either of those get offended or tainted, stop… repent, get it right because if it goes unchecked…it will be just a matter of time before the betrayal happens. Many people get pulled off their assignment because of offenses. It is not worth it! As I am writing this, the word “tainted” came to me so I want to look at that. If I buy chicken at the store to make for my family’s supper, I expect it to be fresh and pure.  I start the process of preparing chicken and dumplings.  I put a pot of water on the stove, add the chicken and maybe a bay leaf, some salt and pepper.  While that is cooking, I prepare the dumplings.  I use flour, ice-cold water and placing that mixture on the counter, I start rolling out my dumplings.  (If I worked that day, I may have purchased frozen dumplings at Publix…but not as good as my own). When the chicken is cooked, I take out the chicken , put in the dumplings and start deboning the chicken.  When the dumplings are almost done, I add the chicken back to the pot. All of a sudden, I smell the chicken and it doesn’t smell right, you know it’s tainted just a little bit. Do I say to myself,”well, it’s almost time for supper, I have to serve this to my family?”, or do I throw the whole pot of food out because it is tainted and could run the risk of poisoning my family, not unto death, but with a stomach condition that would be memorable.

When we become tainted with offenses and stinky attitudes, it has the potential of spoiling the whole pot.  GOD WILL REPLACE US because His work is TOO important for it to be just a little tainted. Judas had an opportunity to be a disciple, but along the way something happened and he had to be replaced. It had been prophesied by David in the Book of Psalms,

Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein, and his bishopric let another take (Acts 1:20).

The kingdom of heaven will go forward and any vacancy will be filled with someone with a humble heart and a pure attitude. Let’s not lose our place in history due to offenses.

Our Inheritance

Your children run into the house and ask, “What are we having for supper?” At my house the children always assumed that there would be supper and to my knowledge they never entertained the thought that they might not be invited to a nightly supper at our home.  After all, it was their home and when we decided to become parents we assumed the responsibility that we (the parents) would be providing their food, clothes, love, parental supervision for a long time.

We seem to understand that with our parents and with our children but when it comes to God…we start thinking…(our main problem)…that maybe He doesn’t mean us when He says,

Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority overall demons, and to cure diseases.  He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.  And He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money, and do not have two tunics apiece.  Whatsoever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.  And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.  So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere (Luke 9:1-6 NKJV).

We are sent out the same way that the Father sent Jesus. And Jesus told the disciples in John 14:12-14:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and GREATER works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatsoever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it (NKJV).

It’s our inheritance.  Jesus left the earth but sent the Holy Spirit to carry out His plans.  When we die our children will inherit from us material goods, money and property if there is a will.  The government will abide by the rules of that will because that is the LAW. (I have experienced this first hand in my life and I truly understand that the inheritance goes to the children.) What parent would not want their children to enjoy what is rightfully theirs?  The inheritance from the parents is not for the neighbor’s children, the cousins but for their children. That’s how God feels about us.  Everything that He gave to Jesus (authority) is ours also!

We have ALL authority over demons and sickness!  Don’t be cheated out of your inheritance! It is yours.  You are HIS child and you need the inheritance to accomplish the assignment He has for you.

Go about your day being CONFIDENT that you are the righteousness of GOD and you are HIS child! Hum…GODFIDENCE!

Yea, go heal the sick, cast out devils, spread the gospel and realize that when you go into any situation the kingdom of heaven has just arrived and you have the answer to the crisis!

Bless you.

Noon Prayer Points

The Holy Spirit has called us to a “special” season of prayer and every Wednesday  those of us who gather together pray for our local churches and the Wednesday night services across our town. This is based on the Word of God that shows in the early church the importance of prayer:

Praying  always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints (Ephesians 6:18 KJV).

Paul was instructing the church how to live victorious lives and had just written about putting on the whole armor of God.  The next verse, 18, is not necessarily included with the armor but obviously very important! What kind of prayers did he say to pray?  All kinds! Public prayers, private prayers, church prayers and family prayers. So these are some of the prayers we will pray today, May 18, 2016.

  • Praying that Jesus will be lifted HIGH in Bartow, Polk County and our region
  • Praying that all churches that profess Jesus is Lord will have everything they need tonight to accomplish the assignment that God has given them
  • Praying that all Pastors/Preachers/Teachers have:
    • Inspired utterance
    • Boldness in preaching
    • Clarity of gospel preaching
  • Praying that all persons listening will UNDERSTAND what is being taught
  • Praying that people who have no hope because they do not know Jesus will realize what He has done for us, accept Him and receive the gift of salvation
  • Praying that the gates of hell WILL NOT prevail against the church (Matthew 16:18)
  • Praying that we will use the power and authority He has given us and bind anything on earth that is not allowed in heaven and loose anything on earth that is loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19)
  • Praying for unity across denominational lines

See you at noon today if you can, otherwise, pray with us wherever you are.

The Comforter Has Come!

We are living in an exciting era!  We not only have the blood of Jesus to take away our sins but He said that when He returned to heaven that He would send another One just like Him to us.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you (John 14:26 NIV).

Then again Jesus tells the disciples in Chapter 16, verses 5-15, more about he Holy Spirit. He even explains that He has to go away so that the Spirit of Truth can come.

After His crucifixion and resurrection from the dead, He spends forty (40) days with the disciples recommisioning them for the work of the ministry and telling them:

Do not leave Jerusalem , but wait for the gift my Father has promised, which you have heard me speak about, For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with  the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4,5 NIV).

Then it happened.  Fifty days after the ascension back into heaven, the PROMISE, the Holy  Spirit came to earth! (Acts 2:4)

We have the gift of the Holy Spirit along with the blood of Jesus to help us, convict us, teach us, comfort us and it was promised  centuries before, but we have access to all of Father God’s plan.

We should be the most equipped generation to accomplish His plans on the earth today.

Let’s celebrate the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 2016!

Thank you, Lord!

I Will Praise You

Today,  Mother’s Day, is a time to celebrate and remember mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces and sisters. For many of us it is a bitter-sweet day; thankful for the children that we have and remembering those who no longer are here on earth and what we have is memories. It can be one of the most emotional holidays we share; after all, we females are passionate about our children and grandchildren.  (That sentence could be the understatement of the year).

Last night, suddenly, I woke up with a friend’s name on my lips, (I don’t even know how that is possible because sometimes when I wake up unexpectedly, I don’t even know my name). I remembered that one of her children is in heaven and I realized the Holy Spirit had awakened me to pray for her. So I did.  That would not have happened had the Holy Spirit had not awakened me. She was NOT on MY mind when I went to sleep, nor had I been thinking of her.  But, our Lord, who gave us our children, remembers!

Let’s think about Him.  If it were not for HIM, we would not have our children.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works;  (Psalms 139:14 King James Version).

Let’s remind ourselves just how marvelous God’s work is:

“It (the homan body), consists of various chemicals-iron,sugar,salt,carbon,iodine,phosphorus, lime, calcium and others.  The body has:

  • 263 bones, 600 muscles
  • 970 miles of  blood vessels
  • 400 cups on the tongue for taste
  • 20,000 hairs in the ear to tune in to all sounds
  • 40 pounds of jaw pressure
  • 10,000,000 nerves and branches
  • 20,000,000 mouths that suck food as it goes through the intestines
  • 600,000,000 air cells to the lungs that inhale 2,400 gallons of air daily
  • the senses
  • the heart beats 4,200 times an hour and pumps 12 tons of blood daily” (Dake’s  Reference Bible)

Then God gives them to us to nurture, teach and love.  Wow, but He has done the major work, so today I think we as mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces and sisters should thank HIM for all HE has done because without HIM, Mother’s Day would not have been possible.

For moms, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, sisters and children that have finished their life on earth, let’s remember them but leave all THAT OTHER STUFF in HIS hands.  After all, HE is GOD!

Happy Mother’s Day!

What’s Important?

Paul in Colossians 3:12-14 wrote:

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing one another and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else.  Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others.  And to all these virtues add LOVE, which is the perfect bond (NET).

Seems logical and easy, maybe. As Christians, we are always ready to accept the forgiveness of Christ in our lives for mistakes but we are slower to want that to happen to someone who has offended us (By the way, I am speaking what I have experienced in my own life until the Holy Spirit nudges me and I repent and ask for forgiveness). Paul told the church at Ephesus that everything they did, especially being used in the spiritual gifts must be done in LOVE.

Then he tells the church at Colosse to let peace be the “umpire” of their hearts in life. (Finis Jennings Dake uses that phrase and I love it). An umpire is supposed to be impartial; treating all people and groups equally; not partial or biased, according to Merriam-Webster. If we let “peace” – (freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions, Merriam-Webster) guide us, we would become impartial and recognize the truth instead of hiding behind the emotional upheaval and anxiety that comes when we are wrong…

But in verses 16 and 17, Paul tells them that the WORD of Christ is just as important as LOVE.

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (NET).

But we must study the Word to find out what it says! We cannot LOVE the way HE LOVED, without the Spirit and we cannot study the WORD without the Spirit.  He is the teacher. We must fill the umpire with the WORD of God so that He can keep us walking in peace.  When we walk in peace we will become a mature person in Christ.

Do you agree or disagree with my interpretation of the WORD?

Let me hear from you.

Praying For The Wave Of The Spirit (2)

Continuing with the second part of Bro. Kenneth Hagin’s prayer found in the book, Tongues, Beyond the Upper Room. (Refer to yesterday’s blog for more information).

“We sense the urgency of it.  We sense the need of it.  We sense the necessity of it.

May we respond unto it, O God, that Your holy will may be wrought in this hour and that we may rise up in faith and, in the power of the Spirit, be the giants in the earth You always intended us to be.

May we be sensitive to the Spirit.  May we be sensitive to His touch when He arrests our attention.  May we know what He wants.  May we respond to His prompting that He may manifest Himself among us through signs and wonders and through diverse miracles and distributions of the Holy Ghost.

May we respond in the crisis of the hour and in the crisis of the day.  And so shall we be ready for whatever arises.  We will flow with the Spirit, and our of our inner-most being shall flow rivers of living water.

Then the dry places shall spring forth in beauty, and those who are thirsty shall find water to drink.  The spiritually dead shall be raised and revived, and life shall be made manifest everywhere.  And we shall rejoice and be glad and declare that You have done it.  All praise and honor and glory will be given unto You, for You deserve it and You are worthy.

May we be so dead to the flesh,so dead to selfishness, but so yielded unto the Spirit as we do the works of righteousness and perform the works of God so that the  acts of God are made manifest in us.  For we are in the end times.  We face the last days when the armies shall gather at Armageddon.

That day will come.  But there will also come a sweeping HARVEST that sweeps across the world and around the globe because we prayed-because we dared to stand in that place of prayer.  We dared to stand in the gap, to make up the hedge, and to intercede for the land.

Thus, the work of God shall be accomplished, and that which the Lord desires for the last days shall come to pass.  And the harvest SHALL BE REAPED, the angels shall rejoice, men shall be blessed, and the glory of the Lord shall shine round about us brighter than the noonday sun,  In the name of Jesus, amen.”

Great prayer, isn’t it?  Let’s be those people that God wants us to be. Praying at 1:00 if your schedule allows.
